Legislature members submit resignations over Telangana statehood

The Central Government's decision to implement the process of creating a separate Telangana state created ripples in political parties of Andhra Pradesh with as many as 70 MLAs and 3 MLCs submitted their resignations to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Speaker. Those who submitted their resignations are from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. The Congress has 158 seats in the Assembly out of the 294 seats.

Congress leaders from the state have strongly criticized the high command's unilateral decision to initiate the process of a creating a separate Telangana state. Among those who submitted their resignations are prominent leaders like J.C. Diwakar Reddy, D.L. Ravindra Reddy, N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy, G. Veerasiva Reddy, Y. Venkateswara Reddy, P Venkatramaya from Krishna district, TDP MLA P Raghunatha Reddy, TDP MLC N Rajkumari, Congress MLA from Vijayawada - Lagadapati Rajagopal, TDP Rajya Sabha MP Mysoora Reddy.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah expressed his shock over the turn of events and refused to comment on the issue till he receives further communication from the Centre.

TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu and PRP Chief K Chiranjeevi have called their members for an emergency meeting to discuss about this development.
