Chief Minister Rosaiah says resolution on Telangana must get majority support

The Chief Minister, K Rosaiah on Thursday said a resolution on a separate Telangana would be introduced in the Assembly only on receiving an official communication from the Centre on the timing and its content. Speaking to media persons, he said that the resolution would be approved only when a majority of the members supported it. During the course of interaction, he allayed the fears of the people of Rayalaseema and Andhra region who are agitated after the Centre's announcement to initiate the process of creation of separate Telangana.

Referring to the some elected representatives turning emotional on the issue, he said there was no need for panic over the Centre's announcement. There is nothing to get concerned and the Centre is closely watching the situation in the State.

Meanwhile, Speaker, N Kiran Kumar Reddy said he would verify the resignations submitted by MLAs, talking to them individually before taking any decision. He said that he had received resignations from 100 MLAs out of 58 from Congress, 29 from TDP and 13 from PRP. They submitted their resignations either in person or by fax in the wake of Centre's announcement. He was speaking at a press conference earlier, said that the Speaker said he would go by the book and established conventions and practices while taking a decision. However, he denied the reports that he himself or Ministers resigned as members of the House.
