December 17, 2009

Lok Sabha was adjourned early on Thursday morning over the Telangana issue. MPs from the Telugu Desam Party disrupted proceedings of the house minutes after it met, protesting the Government's announcement favoring a separate Telanagana state. The members including K Narayana Rao, M Venu Gopala Reddy, N Kristappa and N Sivaprasad rushed to the well, raising slogans and displaying placards demanding a united Andhra.

TDP MP from Telangana, R Ramesh and another MP from Telangana, M Jagganth displayed a "Jai Telangana" placard. Some Congress MPs were also seen protesting against state division from their seats.

Speaker Meira Kumar requested the members to observe sanctity of the house. "Don't show placards. Please don't introduce such things in the House," she urged the members.

The house was adjourned for 15 minutes.
