TRS leaders demand probe in Rajagopal's dramatic escape

December 21, 2009

The Congress leaders from Telangana have demanded the government to order a comprehensive probe into Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal's dramatic escape from the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada. Telangana Congress senior leaders T Jeevan Reddy and R Damodar Reddy said there were several doubts over the way Rajagopal managed to leave the premises where more than 200 police personnel were standing on guard. They said that mere suspension of police officers is not enough and a thorough enquiry should be ordered to ascertain whether Rajagopal was deliberately let out, they said.

Speaking to media on Monday, Damodar Reddy wanted Rajagopal to be shifted out of Hyderabad with immediate effect as his sty was likely to lead to trouble. Jeevan Reddy went ahead with suspecting a conspiracy to destabilize the State and Central Governments in Rajagopal's actions. The high drama that went into Rajagopal's disappearance from the hospital and his sudden appearance in Hyderabad rise to suspicions on the involvement of administration in the entire episode, he said.

At a separate press conference, Damodar Reddy said that the role played by police officials was giving rise to suspicions that an effort was underway to defame Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy who hailed from Telangana. APCC general secretary, G Niranjan too apprehended a conspiracy in the sudden appearance of Rajagopal in Hyderabad and demanded that the Union Home Ministry conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
