TRS chief meets Prime Minister

January 10, 2010

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao on Sunday called on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and briefed him on the Telangana issue. This is the first meeting with the Prime Minister after the Union government began the process of talks with recognized political parties on the issue. The Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, TKA Nair was present during the meeting.

According to reliable sources said that Chandrasekhara Rao urged the Centre to immediately announce the mechanism for continuing the process of formation of a separate Telangana State. It is expected that the TRS chief would brief the Joint Action Committee on Telangana and the future course of action would be taken in consultation with the committee.

The JAC announced that it would continue the agitation peacefully without causing any hindrance to the people till the Centre announced a clear cut time frame for forming a Telangana State. It is understood that the JAC will hold a meeting on Tuesday to chalk out its future course of action. TRS MLA Harish Rao speaking to media on Sunday said that the JAC would intensify the agitation if the Centre failed to make any commitment on carving out a Telanagana State within a clear time frame. He added that the forces fighting for a Telanagana state acted with patience and restraint since the all party meeting. He denied a report in a section of press that KCR was aspiring a berth in the Union Cabinet. He added that himself and KCR sent resignation as MP to the Lok Sabha Speaker and appealed the people not to believe in the rumors. He urged the Press Council of India to take action against those newspapers carrying such reports.
