January 3, 2010

The Joint Action Committee of Telanagana Students have asked all the political parties to clarify their stand on separate Telanagana ahead of the crucial meeting slated to be on January 5 at New Delhi by the Union Home Minister. The JAC has resolved to continue its agitation across the Telanagana region till the Central Government introduces a Bill in the Parliament incorporating a specific time frame for carving out the separate State and also threatened the leaders who spoke against Telanagana in the January 5 meeting to move freely in the region.

The JAC leaders were addressing a massive gathering of students from the ten Telanagana districts thronged the 'Vidyarthi Garjana' public meeting at Osmania Campus on Sunday. The JAC gave a call for 'rail roko' and blockage of National Highways on January 5 in support of their demand for statehood in the region. Threatening to launch an agitation on the lines of Gujars in Rajasthan, the JAC leaders said they could not be cowed down by the government which was bent on using lathis and bullets against the peacefully agitating students. The meeting resolved to demand the government to lift the cases registered against students since the agitation that commenced on November 29 in addition to providing ex gratia of Rs.10 lakhs and a job to each of the families who laid their lives in the course of agitation.

The meeting wad devoid of representatives of any political parties in line with the direction by the High Court even as the speakers who addressed the gathering wanted the students to lead the agitation to ensure its success. Noted freedom fighter Konda Lakshman Bapuji cautioned students against allowing interference by political parties as only student force was capable of taking it to a fruitful conclusion.
