Telangana JAC calls its advocates to boycott courts on Monday

The Joint Action Committee of Telangana has given a call for boycott of courts, including the High Court in Telangana districts on Monday in protest against what it termed in protest against what it called attack on its members by Telugu Desam workers near Indira Park on Saturday. The committee decided to organize demonstrations near offices of TDP in the region after the advocates boycott their work. It also gave a call for boycott of products form ‘Heritage’, the company owned by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Bhuvaneswari until the party leaders tender an unconditional apology over the incident.

The Telugu Desam Party said there was no question of apologizing as it workers did nothing wrong. The TDP claimed that a clash took place when the lawyers came prepared to disrupt a dharna organized by the party along with CPI and CPI (M) against price rise. At a press conference, the Convenor of Telangana advocates JAC Satyam Reddy and Anthony Reddy alleged that the incident near the dharna camp took place after the TDP president rushed anti-social elements towards advocates when they were peacefully staging a demonstration demanding that Chandrababu Naidu’s reveal his stand on separate Telangana.

The advocates were inside the compound wall of Indira Park but the TDP workers scaled it and hit them with sticks. Even women lawyers were not spared. Strangely, the police arrested lawyers who were the victims and took no action against TDP workers, they charged. The convener of Telangana JAC Prof.M.Kodandaram condemned attempts to distort the incident by showing the lawyers tried to confront Chandrababu Naidu just as they wanted to ensure that all parties supported separate Telangana. He also condemned the highhandedness of Chandrababu Naidu towards advocates. JAC of doctors decided to express solidarity with advocates. Meanwhile, the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh while condemning the attacks on the advocates by TDP activists, on Sunday directed all the advocates not to participate in dharnas, rasta roko programmes by wearing bands and gowns. The Bar Council at its general body meeting held on Sunday resolved to initiate appropriate action against those advocates who interfered in upholding the dignity, decency and decorum of the noble profession.

Meanwhile, reports say that post the incident, TDP appeares to quit from Telangana JAC.
