Two corporators among three Telugu Desam held in lawyer attack

March 8, 2010

Three Telugu Desam leaders including two corporators were arrested on Monday for the attack on the lawyers at Indira Park a couple of days back even as the latter continue to start protests against the attack on them. Nearly, 50 lawyers were taken into custody when they tried to force their way in the Director General of Police official at Saifabad on Monday demanding the arrest of the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu. Pro-Telangana lawyers were attacked by the TDP activists when they staged a protest at Indira Park where Chandrababu Naidu was staging a protest against escalating prices of essential commodities.

Gandhi Nagar police registered cases under various Sections against several TDP leaders including Chandrababu Naidu the same day. On Monday, the police arrested two Corporators viz., S Srinivas Reddy of Saidabad and Bhanu Praksh of Kukatpally and a former corporator Dinesh Yadav. S Srinivas Reddy is also the floor leader of the party in the GHMC. Gandhi Nagar Police Inspector, S Sudhakar said that all the three were charged under various Sections including Section 307. The arrest of TDP leaders sparked protests with the party activists reportedly staging a dharna in front of the Gandhi Nagar Police station demanding the release of the arrested leaders.

Meanwhile, lawyers continued their protests in the City and its outskirts and staged protests demanding action against the culprits. After boycotting the courts, nearly 50 lawyers took out a rally from the criminal courts complex, Nampally, to the DGP office at Saifabad demanding the arrest of N Chandrababu Naidu. Police prevented them from entering into the DGP office and later took them into preventive custody and later let off said the Police Inspector N Sudershan.

Post the incident, a remarkable shift in its strategy is visible on the part of the Telugu Desam Party. It may be recalled TDP appeared to be most likely be quitting from Telangana JAC.
