August 17, 2011

The Chairman of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Prof. M Kodandaram inaugurated a dharna and addressed it at the Indira Park in Hyderabad. He asked the people to intensify their pressure on the MLAs who have not resigned recently for the cause of a separate state. He directed them to join hands in paralysing the Government administration by boycotting work. He said that the dharna today is the first step towards a massive action that the TJAC is undertaking shortly.

Kodandaram asked people in the villages to put placards and banners asking their MLAs not to visit them. Former Union Minister from the Bharateeya Janatha Party (BJP) Ch Vidyasagara Rao said that any attempt to cool off the Telanagana statehood demand would call upon an agitation as seen in the case of Anna Hazare.

Mild tension was witnessed when the supporters of TJAC and those of anti-corruption movement who are staging a dharna at a different site had to face each other.

In a separate incident, a student belonging to the CMR Engineering College, Kompalli tried to commit suicide at the Secretariat. He came to the Secretariat and asked the security to allow him outside. The security denied his entry and with this, he took out a knife and stabbed himself. The Saifabad Police Station Inspector K Kalyan Kumar and other policemen stopped him, got him on a police jeep and admitted him at Osmania Hospital where he is declared to be out of danger. A case under Section 309 under IPC (Attempt to commit suicide) was registered against him.
