Sentiments not a criteria for carving out new states says Eluru MP Sambasiva Rao

July 27, 2011

Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said that sentiment should not be criteria for carving out new states. His recent statements have caused more friction between him and the Telanagana leaders.

Speaking to the media after meeting PCC President Botcha Satyanarayana, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said that had sentiment being a criteria, then even people from one or two districts would raise similar demands. He cited the examples of Nizamabad and Adilabad, where people from those districts have raised similar demands in the past.

As expected, his remarks didn't go well with the Telangana leaders. TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao said that Kavuri's remarks are not only unconstitutional but also against the verdict given by the Supreme Court. He blamed the Congress leadership for delaying the formation of a separate Telangana state. He also demanded that Kavuri Sambasiva Rao be arrested for his remarks.

Suspended Telugu Desam Party leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that it is the because of arrogance that Kavuri Sambasiva Rao made such remarks on the Telangana movement. He alleged that the Seemandhra leaders have bought lands in Telangana at a very cheap price and are selling them with huge margins of profits to the Telangana people. Nagam also urged the Telangana people not to take drastic steps like committing suicide for the sake of Telangana state. He said that they could achieve Telangana state only by the Telangana movement.
