Former Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy who began his fast demanding a separate Telangana state has continued his fast at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on the seventh day. Venkat Reddy was shifted to NIMS on Sunday morning after his health deteriorated drastically.

The Congress leadership's attempts to persuade Venkat Reddy to withdraw the fast went in vain. Senior Congress leader and Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, MLC D Srinivas and former Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy called on Venkat Reddy. Jaipal Reddy spoke to the fasting MLA on phone and asked him to call off the fast as the Centre would make an announcement on the Telangana State soon.

Speaking to reporters later, Venkat Reddy said that people are not aspiring for special packages and constitution of regional council. He said that the people of the region are frustrated and they won't accept any alternative except for a separate Telangana state.

Member of Legislative Council D Srinivas, earlier called on Venkat Reddy and said that his message and seriousness of the issue was understood by the Centre. He said that time needs to be given to the high command to respond on the issue. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao criticized the way the Government is handling Venkat Reddy's fast. He also found fault with Government invoking Prevent Detention act etc. to dilute the Telangana agitation.
