Schools reopen in Telangana

October 18, 2011

The schools across Telangana region have reopened Tuesday even as the Sakala Janula Samme entered its 36th day. Social welfare residential school teachers and the members of the Telangana Government Junior Lecturers' Association withdrew from the Sakala Janula Samme strike after holding talks with Ministers Pithani Satyanarayana and K Parthasarathy. With the teachers resuming duties and the schools getting reopened, the onus now lies on making up for the 17 days that were lost in the strike. The teachers assured the Government that they would work on holidays to compensate for the loss.

Thousands of miners of the Singareni Collieries also resumed duties. The management expects normalcy at the mines to be reached soon. However, the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (TEJAC) has refused to call off the strike. The Secretariat Employees Telangana Employees Association is also continuing the protest.
