Chandrababu Naidu to take neutral stand in Telangana issue

October 4, 2011

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu said that he would prefer to be neutral on the separate statehood of Telangana. Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, Chandrababu Naidu said that both Telangana and Andhra regions are equally important to him.

Chandrababu Naidu said that it is the historical necessity for Telugu Desam party to be present in both Telangana and Andhra/Rayalaseema regions. He said that he has given freedom to his party leaders to act in accordance with the sentiment of the people of their respective regions. He said that there is no change in the party's stand and it was made clear at the party's Mahanadu meet in May. He blamed the Congress party for creating instability in the State and said that it is the responsibility of the Congress party to resolve the issue. As an opposition party, the TDP can only give its opinion and it has given the same to Sri Krishna Committee long ago.

The TDP president said that they would not attend any of the meetings convened by the Centre on the Telangana issue as the party has already given its stand to the Sri Krishna Committee. He also said that the Centre would never respect the opinion of the opposition party as it had happened during the revival of the AP Legislative Council and the Nuclear Bill.
