Pranab Mukherjee says announcing a time frame for resolution of Telangana issue is not possible

New Delhi

Senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that the Telangana issue is very sensitive in nature and the formation of a separate Telangana state will trigger demands for many more new states in country. He said that the demand for the statehood of Telangana is on since the past 50 years and since it is a very sensitive issue, defining a time frame for the resolution is not possible. He added that though the political parties in the Telangana region are on the same stand, issues exist between Telangana and Seemandhra regions which is resulting in the delay of the formation of a separate state.

Reacting to the Finance Minister's comments, TRS MP Vijayashanti said that the Telangana issue should not be linked to the problems in other states of the country. She threatened that the Congress party would face dire consequences in Telangana if the separate State of Telangana is not formed soon. She said that the Congress party has no intention of approving the formation of a separate Telangana state and only the NDA Government is capable of doing the same.

Nizamabad MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi said that there is no need to panic on Pranab Mukherjee's comments. He opined that Pranab Mukherjee might have made those comments based on the reports he received. He said that survival of Central and State Governments will be tough if the Telangana State is not formed soon. He also said that the Telangana agitations should not be compared to the agitations in other states.

Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao expressed dissatisfaction on the comments made by Pranab Mukherjee. He ruled out the pressure by the Seemandhra MPs on Pranab Mukherjee as the reason for the comments made today. Hanumantha Rao also made it clear that they will not accept any alternative other than the formation of a separate Telangana state.
