Public transportation takes hit on seventh day of general strike

Public transportation took a major hit during the Telangana 'Sakala Janula Samme' on seventh day as the APSRTC employees joined the general strike. Nearly 10,000 buses were unmoved from the 89 bus depots across the ten districts of Telangana region.

The loss from the APSRTC employees joining strike is estimated at 8 crore on day 1. Speaking to reporters, APSRTC Executive Director of HRD GV Ramana Rao said that a majority of employees affiliated to the recognized union, National Mazdoor Union took part in the strike. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation and constituted two task forces – transport and supply of essential commodities.

TRS MLAs staged protests on the National Highways in Telangana region obstructing the traffic leading to Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. Groups of TRS leaders squatted on the national highways in Medak, Mahabubnagar and Adilabad districts. TRS deputy floor leader in the Legislative Assembly T Harish Rao addressed people at the Pastapur chowrasta in Sangareddy. He said that traffic at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport would be blocked and they would allow no aircraft to be allowed to take off or land.
