Kavitha begins 48-hour hunger strike demanding Ambedkar statue in Assembly

Telangana Jagruti President K Kavitha has begun her 48-hour hunger strike demanding the installation of Dr. BR Ambedkar statue in the Assembly premises.

Kavitha has begun the hunger strike at Indira Park in Hyderabad. She is accompanied by Chennur MLA Nallala Odelu, Telangana Mala Mahanadu president Addanki Dayakar. Several dalit societies have already expressed their solidarity with the hunger strike.

Speaking to reporters, Kavitha said that her hunger strike will be staged peacefully. She also threatened of intensifying the efforts if the Government doesn't respond to their hunger strike. She also warned that the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Speaker Nadendla Manohar will be responsible to the consequences. Earlier, she garlanded the statue of Ambedkar at Tank Band and staged a rally to Indira Park.

Kavitha recalled that she had submitted a memorandum to the Speaker Nadendla Manohar on December 21, 2012. She said the statue installed in the Assembly would help legislator draw inspiration to frame laws to protect the right of the downtrodden. She said that the Ambedkar statue was installed in the Parliament in 1966.
