Chidambaram says decision on Telangana issue as early as possible

June 29, 2012
New Delhi

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram refused to give a time frame on taking a decision on the Telangana statehood issue again. He however said that the Centre is committed to taking a decision as early as possible.

At a press meeting in New Delhi, Chidambaram said that the Government has received requests from all the concerned parties to take a final decision on the issue soon. The Bharatiya Janata Party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, CPI and CPI(M) have already announced their stand on the Telangana statehood. Four other political parties – Congress, Telugu Desam Party, MIM and YSR Congress are yet to announce their stand. He said that the Centre would convene a meeting of the eight political parties in Telangana once the four parties make up their mind.

The Congress has been delaying taking a decision on the Telangana issue. The news from Chidambaram is nothing new as the Centre has been blaming the other political parties for delaying taking taking a decision on Telangana statehood instead of announcing their stand.
