BJP announces support to Telangana bill in Rajya Sabha

May 4, 2012
New Delhi

The BJP strongly supported the formation of the Telangana state in a discussion on the issue in the Rajya Sabha. BJP member Javedkar said that the party is willing to give its full support to the Telangana bill if the government brings the resolution. He said that they want both Telangana and Seemandhra regions to co-exist peacefully.

The discussion was initiated by Congress member KVP Ramachandra Rao who demanded withdrawal of the Telangana resolution stating that historic facts and realities were not taken into account while demanding a separate Telangana state. Ramachandra Rao urged the BJP to stop trying to score political points on the issue and to not provoke the people which would create a law and order situation. He reminded that it was LK Advani, the home minister in NDA regime, who objected to the formation of separate Telangana state.

Javedkar said that the Congress is delaying taking a decision on the Telangana issue saying that it would see the views of other political parties. He criticized that the Congress party itself hasn't taken a clear stand on the issue. Member of other parties including Narendra Kumar Kashyap (BSP), Shivanand Tiwari (JDU), D Bandyopadhay (Trinamool), T Devender Goud (TDP), Biswaji Daimary (Bodoland People's Front), Bhagat Singh Koshiyari (BJP) spoke on the issue and urged the Government to take a speedy decision on the issue.
