Political fever rises in Delhi on Telangana issue

The meeting of Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan with the main leaders of Congress central leadership in New Delhi gained prominence, as the meetings came at a time when political buzz is on the air that the Congress may invite an all-party meeting on Telangana issue and a likely decision on the issue will be taken soon.

The Governor met the AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and on Friday, met Minister for Health and Congress in-charge for state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and AICC general secretary V Narayana Swamy. The meetings indicate the Congress party is making preparations to take a decision on the Telangana issue soon. The Governor said that meetings were mere courtesy calls.

TRS Chief KCR puts pressure on Centre

The TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao was is New Delhi in the past fortnight and was reportedly busy in lobbying with the Congress leadership for an announcement on separate Telangana. He is under pressure from Telangana JAC and other platforms on the issue.

There were rumors that the TRS is likely to merge with the Congress, if the government goes ahead with formation of Telangana state as promised in December 2009. The TRS chief held discussions with the Union Minister Vayalar Ravi twice last week in an effort to put pressure on Congress to make an announcement by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
