Hyderabad

Tension prevailed in Osmania University campus on Thursday when the police prevented the Osmania University JAC and Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) activists from staging a 'Chalo Secretariat'.

The situation turned violent, when the students of Osmania University pelted stones at the police who responded by lobbing teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators. A number of pro-Telangana students at OU tried to take out a rally demanding formation of separate Telangana. They were stopped near the NCC gate and angered over the police raising slogans. They argued with the police present there and started pelting stones. In the course, a TV cameraman was injured when a stone hit him on the head who was rushed to a nearby hospital. The repeated requests of the police went in vain as they started arguing with the police to permit them to take a rally. The police were assisted by the Rapid Action Force to bring the situation under control.
