December 26, 2013

Ever since the President of India Pranab Mukherjee landed in the State as part of his sojourn witnesses a steady stream of visitors pouring in.

On Thursday, the TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao called on the President along with a delegation of his party leaders submitted a ten page memorandum. He highlighted objections to the AP State Reorganization Bill 2013 giving special powers to the Governor to ensure security of the people living in the common capital. He said several State subjects were sought to be taken away from the legitimate purview of the proposed Telangana State by this provision which made the decision of the Governor final though he was expected to consult the Council of Ministers. He said that any government that had no control over law and order machinery in its capital area would lose respect in the eyes of public, he stated in the memorandum. The memorandum dealt with various aspects including river water management, debt and other liabilities, modifications to the provisions on division of government employees, pensioners issue are some among them. On the matter of debt and other liabilities, he said the concerns of Telangana could not be adequately presented in the context of integrated State before the 13th Finance Commission. He wanted the Commission must pay a visit to the State after its formation as it recommendations would have far-reaching implication on finances. He wanted the pensions should be divided between the two States on the basis of their nativity as they should not be a burden on Telangana Treasury, he said.
