Tension in Hyderabad as Telangana activists mount pressure

The leaders of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) have begun a silent protest at the Martyr's memorial near Gun Park in Hyderabad. The TJAC is demanding an announcement on the formation of the Telangana state by January 28. A large number of Telangana activists have participated in the silent protest.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party is staging mass hunger strikes across all constituencies in Telangana. As many as one lakh people are participating in the hunger strikes. The hunger strikes are part of the protests to keep pressure on the Centre to allow the formation of Telangana state by the January 28 deadline.

The Telangana Students JAC leaders also are staging protests in Hyderabad today. The Student JAC leaders tried to lay siege to the Ministers residences. Police sprung into action and have taken a number of students into custody.

Telangana Jagruti leaders were also taken into custody. The Telangana Jagruti has already announced that they would disrupt the Seemandhra leaders meeting in Hyderabad today.

It is known that Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had promised resolving the Telangana issue by January 28. He made an announcement to that effect after the all party meeting in New Delhi last month.
