Senior Congress leader and Amberpet Assembly candidate V Hanumantha Rao expressed his confidence that Congress would form government in the new Telangana state. Speaking to media on Monday, Hanumantha Rao said that Congress would attain an absolute majority by winning 75 to 80 seats in the coming Assembly elections.

The chance of a hung Assembly and forging an alliance with other parties would not arise, he asserted. Hanumantha Rao, who was born in Amberpet, said that he was forced to contest from the constituency due to the mounting pressure from people of Amberpet. A three time Rajya Sabha member, Hanumantha Rao's current term would expire in a year and ten months. When asked if he will be in race for the post of Chief Minister, Hanumantha Rao said that his first goal is to win the election and then it is up to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Hanumantha Rao blamed BJP for forging an alliance with Telugu Desam Party fully knowing that the later tried to stall the Telangana bill in the Parliament.
