Stage set for polling in Telangana

The Election Commission of India has made elaborate arrangement for the assembly and Lok Sabha polling slated on Wednesday.State Election Commissioner Bhanwar Lal speaking to media on Monday said that as many as 2.82 crore people are going to exercise their franchise on Wednesday general elections. He said that the State and Central Governments have declared a paid holiday and holiday is applicable to all establishments.

Live telecast

Bhanwar Lal said polling will be held in 30,518 polling stations in ten Telangana Districts and the polling in 16,512 polling stations will go on live through net. He said big screens will be displayed at mandal centres for telecast of the process. EC has identified 1200 poling centres as sensitive and security arrangements have been made and as many as 1.40 lakh police force being deployed with 162 companies of central forces.

Extended polling time in 7 Assembly constituencies

Bhanwar Lal said that the time of polling have been extended by an hour in 7 assembly constituencies. The time for polling in the Maoist threat prone areas will be held from 7 am to 4pm and based on the report from the district collectors, the number of constituencies have been brought to 3 while polling in the rest of seven will be held up to 5pm.

Ban of campaign in TV Channels

Bhanwar Lal said that with the time for campaigning has come to an end it imposed restrictions on TV campaigning in Seemandhra too. However, it can be restricted after 6pm on Wednesday by then elections will be over in Telangana area, said Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma.
