Telangana votes for its first Assembly

The people of Telangana will exercise their vote today to elect the first ever Assembly of Telangana. Polling began at 7 am all across Telangana region. The elections today is the first of the two phases in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Polling troubles

Polling at several voting booths in Telangana started late due to technical problems of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal, while admitting troubles at few booth said he is happy with the overall arrangements made for smooth conduct of polling. He also defended not allowing mobile phones into voting booths. In a message to voters, Bhanwar Lal urged the people to exercise their vote to elect their representative for the next five years.

Voting Trends

Polling will be conducted till 4 pm at Bhupalpalli, Mulugu and Bhadrachalam. Polling will be allowed till 5 pm at Sirpur, Chennur, Asifabad, Khanapur, Manthani, Acchampet and Kollapur.

Election Updates

Polling concludes peacefully in Telangana. It is learnt that maximum polling was achieved in Medak and Nalgonda districts. 6:00 pm

Congress nominee for Medak Assembly constituency Vijayashanti has expressed her anger at a presiding officer in Maddalvai of Medak mandal. Vijayashanti alleged that the presiding officer is a supporter of TRS party and is impressing upon the voters to vote for TRS party. Vijayashanti said she would complain to the district Collector. Rural SI Venu reached the spot and brought the situation under control. 5:50 pm

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said people should not reveal the party to which they voted. He was referring to incident in which TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has revealed that he voted to the candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party.

BJP Yuva Morcha city vice president Ksheer Sagar alleged that Congress Amberpet assembly constituency nominee V Hanumantha Rao has attacked him. He lodged a complaint with the Narayanaguda police station. Ksheer Sagar urged the police to take action against Hanumantha Rao. The police have lodged a case and are investigating. 3:00 pm

BJP leaders allege that Vikram Goud, son of former minister Mukesh Goud attacked their party workers at Gouliguda in Hyderabad. BJP leader Rajsingh Lodh has staged protest against the minister. 1:00 pm

YSR Congress Party nominee and former DGP Dinesh Reddy along with 50 of his supporters entered a polling booth at Ramanthapur. CPM leaders have raised objections to Dinesh Reddy violating the rules. 12:15 am

BJP nominee for Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency Bandaru Dattatreya, his wife Vasanta and daughter Vijayalakshmi cast their votes at polling booth no. 184 at JV high school in Adikmet. 12:10 am

Film actor Brahmanandam expressed his disappointment as his name was not present in the electoral rolls. 11:55 am

TRS and Congress party workers clashed with each at Kollapur in Mahbubnagar district. Former Sarpanch Sridevi and Ratan Goud were injured in the incident. 11:40 am

Union Minister and Congress Seemandhra campaign co-ordination committee chairman K Chiranjeevi said that a hung Assembly in Telangana is possible and no party could attain a majority to form a government on its own. 11:30 am

Labour department officials are conducting surprise checks at Kondapur in Hyderabad. It is known that the lbour department has declared today as a holiday on account of election day. 11:15 am

TDP and Congress party workers clashed at Biklanayak Tanda in Mechalla cheruvu mandal of Nalgonda district. Police resorted to lathi charge to chase them away. 10:30 am

TDP candidate Pratap Reddy and Congress nominee Narsa Reddy were kept under house arrest in Gajwel constituency of Medak district. 10:25 am

Malkajgiri Lok Sabha TDP nominee Malla Reddy casted his vote at Boinpally. 9:39 am

Union Minister Chiranjeevi, wife Surekha and son Ram Charan Teja casted their votes in Hyderabad. When the election officials asked Chiranjeevi to come straight to the booth instead of standing in the queue, voters who are already in the queue raised objection. 9:38 am

Villagers at Bethalapadu of Wyra constituency in Khammam are abstaining from voting. They are refusing to cast their votes as the highway works in their region were not taken up. Villagers of Metla Timmapur of Bayyaram mandal have also banned elections as the elected representatives have not taken up their problems in the past. 9:30 am

Bhanwar Lal told polling officials not to send back voters who did not arrive with voting slips. Voters with no voting slips can still exercise their vote. "8:55 am

Lok Satta president Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan along with his family casted their votes at Erramanjil. Speaking to media later, he appealed to the people to cas their votes. 8:50 am

BJP Telangana unit president G Kishan Reddy cast his vote at Kachiguda Baghlimpally Deeksha model school. He along with his mother Andalamma and wife Kavya exercised their right to vote. 8:40 am

CEO Bhanwar Lal said that 2000 additional units of EVMs are available in each district. 8:40 am

Five TRS party workers were arrested by the police for allegedly distributing money to voters at Alitimmapur of Hanumakonda. 8:36 am

Four Navy choppers are kept ready to deal with emergency situations on the polling day today. Director General of Police B Prasada Rao said two Air ambulances are also kept ready. The Police has deployed proper security arrangements to deal with any untoward situations on account of polling. 8:30 am

Film actor and Jana Sena party founder Pawan Kalyan casted his vote at polling booth in Gayatri Hills. Speaking to media later, he urged people to exercise their right to vote. 8:10 am

Technical problems at 30 polling booths in Adilabad.

Voting at booth No. 124 in Maheswaram was stalled due to trouble with EVMs.

Polling at booths 15,16 at Chaitanyapuri in Hyderabad stalled due to trouble with EVMs.

Several popular film personalities cast their voting at Film nagar.

Polling booth No. 164 Quthbullapur failed to function properly which stalled voting.

A polling booth officer was bit by a snake in Mahbubnagar.

Voting at few election booths in Hyderabad city limits were delayed as Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) failed to function properly. Voting at Booths No. 243 and 1244 in Serlingampally did not start on time. EVMs also gave trouble at polling booths No. 312, 313 and 314 in LB Nagar, Tukaramgate, Kukatpally and at Jubilee Hills.
