'Demolition drive will continue’, says GHMC Commissioner

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the demolition drive would continue despite the Mayor led Standing Committee’s unanimous resolution seeking halt.

GHMC commissioner said that the drive was a regulatory function of the civic body. The Standing Committee chaired by Mohammed Majid Hussain on Thursday resolved stop demolition drive and sought action against the erring municipal officials. The Commissioner said on Friday that they would approach the Government on the Standing Committee resolution. ‘Action would be taken on the erring official and there would be no excuse on this’, he said.

Somesh Kumar said that 33 on-going unauthorised constructions were pulled down so far and would continue to do so at a time when Telangana government is keen to make the future of Hyderabad a bright.He said that Building Regularization Scheme only helps when the violations were minor but in total violations of several norms would not be regularised, said the Commissioner.
