Loan waiver - Two more farmers die

Two more farmers died on Friday while political parties including BJP raises voice against the Telangana State Government demanding to keep the poll promise of waiver of loans of agricultural without any conditions.

After hearing the reports in the media of the TRS government that loans upt one lakh taken in the last year would be waived, a farmer Dattatreya died of severe cardiac arrest. The family members of the deceased told that he borrowed loans heavily to grow crops and marry off six of his seven daughters.

In another incident in Mahabubnagar district, a farmer Lakshman allegedly committed suicide after being pressurized by money leaders for repayment of the loan dues. It is said that he had borrowed Rs.2.5 lakhs to grow paddy in his fields. Villagers attribute that the ambiguity over the loan waiver drove him to commit suicide.

Farmers block roads

Meanwhile, farmers blocked roads in Khammam, Nizamabad and Nalgonda district demanding the government to implement the farm scheme without any delay. Farmers in Karimnagar, Nizamabad district burnt the effigies of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and removed flag posts in protest over the silence of the TRS party on the loan waiver scheme.
