Congress Screening committee seeks MPs views for candidate selection

AICC screening committee held discussions for about 11 hours to seek views of key Telangana Congress leaders as they begin preparation of the list of candidates for upcoming Telangana Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The screening committee led by Vayalar Ravi and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh held face to face discussions with the state leaders to obtain their view as to who should be given party ticket. Along with candidate selection, the committee also focussed on whether to contest the elections alone or form an alliance with any political party.

The committee met under the leadership of screening committee chairman Vayalar Ravi at the party war room in Delhi. The meeting went on till 11 in the night. Committee co-chairman Digvijay Singh and committee member RC Kunthia participated in the meeting. Telangana Congress leaders Ponnala Lakshmaiah, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Damodar Rajanarasimha along with other state leaders were present.

The committee has received several lists of prospective candidates. DCC presidents on behalf of TPCC, Telangana election campaign committee have submitted lists. With this, the number of candidates aspiring for party tickets for the Assembly elections are in the range of three to ten. The committee has filtered the list and shortlisted two candidates per Assembly as of now. The final list of candidates will be prepared in the next three to four days and would be announced to the media before the end of the month.

According to sources, the MPs suggested that one or two sitting MLAs needs to be changed because of their poor performance, while some MLAs urged the leadership to change the sitting MPs.
