TRS rules out merger with Congress

March 3, 2014

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao has ruled out merger of the party with the Congress. The announcement came after the party held six-hours of deliberations with party leaders. The decision comes as a jolt to the Congress as it was expecting TRS to merge with it. Moreover, the TRS has also not given any assurance of a poll alliance with Congress.

Giving clarity on the merger issue, Chandrasekhar Rao said that the polit bureau has passed a unanimous resolution. Saying that the Telangana people and party cadre are not in favour of merger, KCR said that the Congress has not taken them into confidence in the process of formation of Telangana statehood. KCR said that a five member committee has been formed to consider alliances for elections, which will be headed by Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao.

TRS president said that the people of Telangana want to have its own entity and should have their voice of their own. He charged the merger of seven revenue mandals in Seemandhra as undemocratic. It is unfortunate that not even a project was given to Telangana, said KCR.
