Police send notice to former MLA Uttam Kumar Reddy

The police on Thursday sent notices to Congress working committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Photo Energy Systems in a case relating to cash that was found partially burnt in an Innova car on the outskirts of Suryapeta town. It may be recalled that police found bundles of burnt currency notes that were found concealed in the buoyant of an Innova vehicle. The windshield of the car had an MLA sticker of former Huzurnagar MLA and minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Nalgonda Superintendent of Police T Prabhakar Rao said that they suspect that the cash was meant for distribution among the voters in Nalgonda where polling was held yesterday. The SP said that they are investigating to determine the source of the cash and the person who was transporting the cash. The driver of the vehicle fled away from the scene when fumes erupted from the car and was absconding. Once he is nabbed, more information can be revealed, said Prabhakar Rao.

State Chief Electoral officer Bhanwar Lal said yesterday that there was Rs 2.5 crore cash in the vehicle. While some of the partially burnt currency notes were found lying inside the bonnet of the car above the engine, some were found on the back seat of the car, police said.
