D Srinivas

Dharmapuri Srinivas is a politician belonging to Congress party. He is a former President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, the state unit of Indian National Congress. Srinivas is a former MLA and MLC of Andhra Pradesh Assembly. He is a three-time MLA.

Early life

D Srinivas was born on 27 September 1948 in Velpoor of Nizamabad district. He did his graduation from Nizam College in Hyderabad.

Srinivas has two sons. His elder son Sanjay is a former Mayor of Nizamabad, while his younger son Arvind is a businessman.


D Srinivas served as the president of APCC. He is a former MLA. In October 2011, D Srinivas was elected Member of Legislative Council (MLC).

He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency thrice - in 1989, 1999 and 2004. He lost the constituency four times as well. Surprisingly, Srinivas lost the constituency twice when he was in the role of PCC president. He later lost in 2009 general elections and 2010 by-elections.

2014 Elections

In the 2014 elections, Srinivas changed his strategy and shifted to the nearby Nizamabad Urban constituency. The decision was taken as five time TDP MLA Mandava Venkateswar Rao from the constituency has retired from active politics. However, Srinivas finds a strong rival in TRS candidate Bajireddy Govardhan.
