Palvai Govardhan Reddy

Palvai Govardhan Reddy is a politician belonging to Congress party. He is a member of Rajya Sabha, upper house in Indian Parliament. He was elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Mungode constituency a number of times.

Early life

Palvai Govardhan was born on 20 November 1936 in Nadimpally village of Mahbubnagar district. Nadimpally village is in Achampet mandal. He was born to Palvai Ranga Reddy and Anasuyamma an dis the eldest of the siblings.

He studied in Shivannagudem village till fourth grade, in Azampura for fifth grade and in Devarkonda till sixth grade. Govardhan Reddy shifted to Hyderabad in 1951 and then continued his education at St. Mary's High School. He did his Intermediate and Graduation in Vivek Vardhani College at Mozamjahi market in Hyderabad.

He stayed with his aunt during 1956-67 for his education and pursued his interest in politics from then on.


During his student days, he was very close to Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and future President of India. He was also associated with Kasu Brahmananda Reddy.



Palvai Govardhan Reddy criticized TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh for failing to win the majority in Telangana Assembly elections. Govardhan Reddy demanded the sacking of Ponnala as TPCC chief who also failed to win the Jangaon Assembly seat from which he contested. On May 19, 2014 the TPCC disciplinary committee headed by Kodanda Reddy met at Gandhi Bhavan and decided to write to high command to expel Govardhan Reddy from the party. May 19, 2014
