PCC President Srinivas asks Congress MLAs to withdraw resignations
The Congress High Command has directed the party MLAs who have submitted their resignations in support of and against separate Telangana to withdraw their papers. The party's central leadership has communicated its instructions to the MLAs and MLCs through AP Congress Committee president D Srinivas even as the Telangana MLAs and MLCs appeared defiant on the issues. Meanwhile, former Minister R Damodar Reddy said that they have not received any instructions from the high command and they have not resigned at the instance of the leadership.
APCC president, D Srinivas speaking to media persons said the Congress High Command gave the direction to the MLAs as they were putting tremendous pressure on the Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Council Chairman A Chakrapani. He advised the party leaders not to give scope for precipitation of the crisis as the main opposition TDP was desperately waiting to take advantage of the situation. Later, Damodar Reddy speaking to media said that they any decision on withdrawing their resignations would be announced after consultations within the Telangana Joint Action Committee on Tuesday.
He said they will discuss the course of action to be adopted till the process for formation of separate State gets under way and asserted that the Congress leaders were concerned more about Telangana than the posts they were holding. He further said that Congress leaders from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were convinced that bifurcation of the State was inevitable and it was only a matter of time before Telangana State was formed. He claimed that they had even constituted an expert committee to study issues relating to the capital of Andhra State, economic development and other aspects.
