Ten-member delegation pleased with assurance on Telangana

December 19, 2009

Apparently satisfied with the signals they received from the Centre that a resolution on statehood for Telangana may not be introduced in the Assembly in the near future, Congress MLAs from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are expected to review in a day or two their earlier decision to resign. A Ten member delegation called on the the Congress leaders in New Delhi is said to be pleased with the Centre's explanation. JC Diwakar Reddy, TG Venkatesh and other MLAs who met the AICC leaders in the last couple of days are expected to brief fellow party-men about their consultations.

A larger meeting proposed to be held on Monday has been cancelled as a section of the MLAs from other regions were upset at the unilateral statements issued by Diwakar Reddy and Venkatesh. Hence, interactions will be held with smaller groups to impress upon them that no resolution will be introduced in the Assembly without wide ranging consultations with a stakeholders. It is reportedly told the delegation by the Central leaders that it may take a long time to even draft the wordings for the resolution that too after consultation with all sections.

They also explained that there was no scope for introduction of a Bill in Parliament without the Assembly passing a resolution, as the UPA government would not be able to get support of all parties which were against smaller States. The MLAs would be urged to extend all cooperation to bring back normalcy in the State. Meanwhile, senior Telangana Congress leaders decided to hold a meeting on Sunday to take stock of the developments.
